I know I'm weird. That being stated:
If you're at someone's house, and they don't have a BAR of soap, only body wash, is it just common to pour it in to your hands, and then wash yourself like that? I'm not a huge fan. I like having something in my hand to wash me.

I, for one, don't like to use bars of soap that other people have used. I mean, it's not like the previous user's skin cells stay on the soap or anything, but it's a personal preference, especially if there's a stray body hair left behind.
So, I prefer body wash. The end.
Bars of soap creep me out. Yuck, yuck, yuck.
And if you're at someone's place, you should always ask for a washcloth to shower with.
But yes, since you didn't have a washcloth, you bathed correctly.
I agree with the previous comments, bar soup is kinda gross...plus you had a reason to be touching yourself.
Bar soap is disgusting. Period.
